About Midnight Candymen
The Midnight Candymen are East Midlands musicians and DJs who one day realised that they had become bored; not bored with life (for their interests and imagination are far too broad), but bored with, for want of a less hackneyed and melodramatic phrase, the state of modern music. Beset on one side by the quick-hit but increasingly shallow pop formula (of which music forms only a superficial and increasingly irrelevant role), and on the other by po-faced stagnation within the realms of the underground, it was clear that something was rotten. Even their beloved "soul" music had become largely soulless.
After thinking, drinking and tinkering in the presence of all these ideas, they struck out on a quest of musical exploration through time and space, with the intention of creating something a little bit deeper than a ring tone and a little more enduring than a seven minute mixing tool with the shelf life of a cob (a cheese cob for those interested).
Whether they have or will achieve that is anybodys guess (so long as it outlasts the cob) The point is that its fun to sit down and create something from nothing and besides, making music is the second most enjoyable activity that a group of young people can do together (depending on one's personal proclivities).
They are also the people who are writing these very words, in the third person, which, in all honesty, is a bit strange, so maybe they/we should switch to the first (plural)...
When not putting our ideas into practice in the studio, we can be found putting them into practice in the club, bar, or whatever licentious party environment we are asked to perform at.
Our aim is to facilitate humanity at its finest and most magnanimous, generally on a dance floor, or even better, in zero gravity, drinking wine from a Camel-Bak. We would also like to travel to Sirius one day in order to have a Serious Sirius Space Party and though this ambition is looking increasingly unlikely, Fran claims to have been there - twice [I f*~@ing have! - Fran].
Essentially, were trying not just to tick the boxes.
Were creating our own.
Then thinking outside them.
Then realizing that they are in fact, circles, and that we should get on with being East Midlands musicians who are bored with both the quick-hit pop formula and the seven minute mixing tool with the shelf life of a cob...
(If you think that sounds too clever by half, it should be noted that due to the mileage and not the years, we are now only too clever by 45%, so you would be wrong by 5%).
